About us

Lagniappe Lane is a culturally influenced gift shop intent on offering a little something extra to our customers. Our designs are original and offer unique twists on traditional favorites.

Nestled on the northern shores of Lake Pontchartrain in southeast Louisiana, Lagniappe Lane currently calls Mandeville home. However, that doesn’t mean we’re not culturally enriched by our neighboring southern metropolis, New Orleans. Our family originally resided on the southern shore, in a suburb of the major city, better known to locals as “Da Parish.” Having been raised in such a highly influential environment, it would be hard for those roots not to sprout some type of cultural art form. This is where Lagniappe Lane is born.

This is Erika, who happens to be the creator, concept developer, illustrator, and heart behind Lagniappe Lane. Erika received her Bachelors of Fine Arts from Louisiana State University and then went on to acquire her Masters of Fine Arts from the University of New Orleans.

Bringing a new meaning to the phrase “southern draw-l,” she’s fallen in love with creating designs from local euphemisms and historical nuances.

You know that saying, “it takes a village?” Well, this is our village! None of this would even be remotely possible if not for these two. They make this dream a reality from their countless hours of support and work to ensure Lagniappe Lane is successful!

Why “Lagniappe” and why “Lane?”

For those new around these parts, Lagniappe is defined as “a little extra.” It could be in reference to something received, such as getting an extra piece of fried okra in your french fry basket. However in our business, it means more than just a genuine oversight. Lagniappe in Louisiana is not just about receiving more, but giving more. We give our all at Lagniappe Lane. From designing something truly unique to ensuring our products are created with the best materials and processes, we pride ourselves in going that extra mile!

So, why Lane? As most are familiar, Lane is just another variation of street, drive, or boulevard which make up a city, town, or village, but it can also mean a path of direction. For example, when a certain family member feels the need to give you unsolicited advice and you have to remind them to “stay in their lane.” But in our case, Lane refers to our growth along this process, while also resonating with a place called home. Our first family home was on an undisclosed Lane. It is where our family essentially began and our artist’s journey took its first steps. We’ve had quite the ride since then, with ups, downs, curves, and hills, yet we’ve always seemed to manage our lane, moving forward regardless of any obstacles or speed bumps. Thus, we find ourselves right at home, with our eyes focused on the road ahead.
